The Government Ain’t Broke — It’s Just Blowing Money Faster than Rick Ross

Public documents show the Department of Homeland Security has contracted to purchase a pair of top-of-the-line Gulfstream jets for the secretary and other top officials.
Public documents show the Department of Homeland Security has contracted to purchase a pair of top-of-the-line Gulfstream jets for the secretary and other top officials.

Key Points

  • The Department of Homeland Security purchased two Gulfstream G700 jets costing between $172 million and $200 million during the Government Shutdown.

  • The purchase exceeds the Coast Guard's initial $50 million request for one replacement jet, prompting criticism from lawmakers about fiscal responsibility and procurement practices.

  • Representatives DeLauro and Underwood demanded detailed explanations and documentation from Secretary Kristi Noem by October 30, 2025, concerning the contract and funding sources.

Man, y’all better stop letting Speaker of the House Mike Johnson run that “we’re broke” game on y'all. Every time the topic of housing, healthcare, or student loans comes up, suddenly the government’s pockets turn inside out like a broke baby daddy on payday.

But look closer — DHS Secretary Kristi Noem just dropped $200 million of your taxpayer money on not one but TWO brand-new Gulfstream jets. Not for national emergencies. Not for humanitarian aid. For her luxury travel. Because she’s too good to fly either military air or commercial.  That’s the same Trump team that’s been preaching “America First” while treating the treasury like their personal frequent-flyer fund.

In the South, we have this term “poor mouth” (pron: po’ mout’):

Poor Mouth (noun) - When somebody with money acts broke to dodge responsibility, sympathy, to hustle folks, or to keep from helping out. That slick talk that people use when they got it — but pretend they don’t got it.

Example: “He got a Benz in the driveway talkin’ ‘bout he can’t afford to take you to Ruth’s Chris for dinner.  Gurl, don’t let him run that poor mouth on you!”

Translation: Fake broke energy. A performance of poverty to avoid accountability, generosity, or truth.

Kristi Noem and her jets are a perfect example of crying “poor mouth”.  Trump is steadily hollerin’ broke.  Mike Johnson is constantly blaming Democrats for the Shutdown.  But every time we turn on the news, somebody is get’n some money!  $40 Billion to the Argentinians.  $25 Billion to Israel.  $75 Billion to ICE.  And now…$200 Million for two planes for one lady.

Trump is like that friend that owes you money.  Swear they ain’t got it yet.  But when you roll up in the club, they poppin’ bottles and sittin’ in the VIP!

Documents that were posted to a public government procurement website (but have since been removed) and reviewed by Ghetto Philosopher News showed that the department signed a sole source contract with Gulfstream to buy not one but two “used” G700 jets, touted by the company as having the “most spacious cabin in the industry.” The total contract value is listed as a little over $172 Million.

Essential to emphasize, 10 U.S.C. 3201 and 41 U.S.C. 3301 require that contracting officers shall promote and provide for full and open competition in soliciting offers and awarding government contracts. Full and open competition means that all responsible sources are permitted to submit sealed bids or competitive proposals on the procurement. In other words, the government must structure every acquisition so that all capable vendors have a fair opportunity to compete, unless a specific exception applies. This requirement originates from the Competition in Contracting Act (CICA).

Bottom Line

Every federal contract must, by law:

  1. Be competed openly among all qualified vendors (FAR 6.101(b)),

  2. Use recognized competitive procedures (sealed bidding, negotiated procurement, GSA schedules, etc.), and

  3. Only deviate from that standard if a FAR 6.302 exception is justified and approved through a Justification and Approval (J&A) document.

Unless that $172 million award:

✅ fits squarely within a FAR 6.302 exception,

✅ has a fully documented J&A with SPE approval, and

✅ was synopsized in accordance with FAR 5.202,

then it is not compliant with FAR 6.101, 6.303, and 6.304, and thus illegal under CICA.

Trump out here talkin’ ‘bout the “Big Beautiful Bill” and how he’s saving America money — meanwhile his people are blowin’ money faster than Rick Ross and Styles P sittin’ in the back of a triple black Rolls-Royce Phantom in the B.M.F. video. The only difference is, when the rappers ball out, it’s their own money. When Trump’s crew does it, it’s TAXPAYER money.

So don’t believe the hype. America ain’t broke. The problem isn’t resources — it’s priorities. They’ll tell you there’s no money for student debt relief, but there’s always enough for another jet, another war game, another billionaire tax break. This ain’t mismanagement; it’s manipulation. They want working folks thinking scarcity is normal so we stop asking for what’s fair.

"These motherfuckers mad that I'm icy! (Boss). Stunt so hard, make them come indict me (Ugh). I think I'm Big Meech, look at my timepiece. It's an Audem-eer, hundred racks, at least." - Rick Ross, B.M.F.

In the streets, we call that what it is — a hustle. And if you don’t see the con by now, you’re not paying attention.

The purchase doesn’t appear to have passed Noem’s political opponents by, with two top-ranking Democrats, Congresswomen Rosa DeLauro and Lauren Underwood, having written to the Homeland Security Secretary asking her to “clarify the funding source.”

“In addition to raising serious questions about your ability to effectively lead an agency whose procurement strategies appear to vary on a whim, the procurement of new luxury jets for your use suggests that the U.S.C.G. has been directed to prioritize your own comfort above the U.S.C.G.’s operational needs, even during a government shutdown,” their letter reportedly reads. “We are deeply concerned about your judgment, leadership priorities, and responsibility as a steward of taxpayer dollars.”

It’s not the first time Noem’s spending has come under scrutiny since she assumed her post at the MAGA administration earlier this year. Democrats blasted her for reportedly staying free-of-charge at a glitzy Washington, D.C. residence ordinarily reserved for top Coast Guard brass—not least given changes she’s implemented at her department requiring her sign off on any expenditure over $100,000.

Nicknamed 'ICE Barbie' for her love of dolling up for the cameras, it's not the first time Noem's spending has come under scrutiny.

So here’s your Sunday call to action: stop believing the “broke” poor mouth narrative. Start demanding receipts. Vote like your taxes matter. Organize like your rent depends on it. Because it does. Every dollar they waste in the sky is another one not building housing, hospitals, or hope right here on the ground.

America’s not out of money — it’s out of excuses.
